Have you ever had an evening alone and cooked up lazy packet noodles for dinner? Would you ever think of doing this if you were preparing a meal for someone else?
We often have lower standards for ourselves than we have for others. This can be a trap for small business owners and the self-employed. With only ourselves to critique us, the standards start to slip. This can show in the standard of work clothing, the standard of daily scheduling and the standard of mental focus.
Cultivating a service mindset is one antidote to this. Rather than thinking that you are serving yourself and can let standards slip, the truth is you are serving your family and community. It is for their sake that the high standards need to be maintained, even if it feels a bit unnecessary in the moment.
